Lightening Rods

I forgot to mention that there were 3 lightening rods on the roof. All but one still had the glass bulbs on them. We managed to salvage one complete rod when we redid the roof for the addition. Unfortunately the other one was securely attached to the metal that connected the rods together and when we tried to get it apart, the glass broke. I'm really happy that we were able to save one of them though because I was worried we wouldn't get to save any of them. It's now in the house and I use it as a corner decoration on the landing upstairs. :)

Monday

Going up!

Well the work on the upstairs addition is underway. We'll be adding another bedroom, a closet, and a bathroom in the master bedroom, and we'll be adding a few feet to the master bedroom also. It'll be nice to no longer have a roof that slopes like an A Frame!

A light upstairs! It is so odd to see that...we have never had lights on upstairs!

Rock & Roll

We wanted to do something to draw attention to the door and kitchen window, so we decided to go with rocks. We're also going to use these rocks on the kitchen island and also on the fireplace in an addition to be added later on.

More windows, shingles, and siding

We wanted to get the windows upstairs in and get some more siding going. We also wanted to get the tin ripped off the porch roof and shingle it.

An unexpected new wall...

While I was gone shopping, I got a phone call from hubby asking about the kitchen wall and how soon I was wanting to take it out and rebuild it. I answered with a "well, not right now, but eventually when we redo the kitchen. Why?" and on the other end of the phone I get "Well, because I'm standing here looking at the living room" ok...no big deal I thought. You can see the livingroom from the kitchen, so why call? "Yeah, and?". His reply..."I'm standing outside!". Turns out that when he went to rip off the old siding on the kitchen side, the whole wall fell out!!! I about had a heartattack! I have no idea what was holding that wall up...obviously it was only some rusty old nails and wood siding!

Siding! On the porch at least...

Windows!

The old windows were in such bad shape that we wanted to get right to them after we did the main door. We tried to get the size as close to the old ones as possible because we really liked the size of them. And then we replaced the "why oh why is it there!" door with a big picture window.

Here we go!

We signed the papers just in time for a long holiday weekend, so we could start demo-ing and getting some projects going. Our first choice on what to do was to put in a new door and start working on the siding on the porch. We decided that the other doors made no sense at all, so we decided that our main entrance will be into the kitchen. We had a very small door there so putting in the new one required taking out some wall, but I just LOVE the door! The window you see to the left is going to stay. It's original to the house as far as we know and it's real lead glass on the top. We can't bear to loose it and were trying to be super careful when messing around with the door.
Isn't it pretty? I love this door!!

To start tearing off the old wood siding outside, we had to hire some help. They were cheap and got bored pretty easy, but at least they can say they helped on the house. :)

Before we even touch it.....

Kitchen:

Hallway...if you can really call it that:

Bathroom:

This is an antique cabinet that is in the small room that we turned into a laundry room. The house had no hookup for a washer at all when we moved in. The previous owners (a very elderly couple) still used a wringer washer and the clothesline:

Living room (since there's no room in the small bedroom, the baby's toys are all in here):

Oldest daughters bedroom (please ignore the mess...she has no storage to speak of):

I didn't include pics of the weightroom, our bedroom, or the upstairs. I have upstairs ones I will add later.
